Resolution of the societal challenges of our times open opportunities driving innovation and new applications, collaboration across boundaries, emergence of new ecosystems and adoption of novel enabling technologies and material systems. Industrially and commercially viable scaling-up of these technologies requires convergence between photonics, semiconductor and other supporting industries. Heterogenous integration of novel materials and chiplets (e.g. InP, LNO, 2D, polymers) with photonics and electronics are an example of key enabling technologies. This requires enablement of new ecosystems and new models for public-private collaboration.
